Crochet Big Rose

This crochet flower pattern is for the Big Crochet Rose with 2 to 4 and even 5 layers - the choice is yours, you can do as many layers as needed.

Yarn recommended for the big crochet rose: medium weight or worsted weight (weight category #4). I used Red Heart Super Saver in White, Petal Pink, Light Raspberry and Burgundy.
Recommended crochet hook:I9/5.5 mm or J10/6.00 mm
Stitches and abbreviations used: CH - chain, SC - single crochet, DC - double crochet, slip stitch.

1-layer Rose Flower
3 1/4 in (8.25 cm) across
2-layers Rose Flower
4 in (10 cm) across
3-layers Rose Flower
4 1/2 in (11.5 cm) across
4-layers Rose Flower
5 1/4 in (13.5 cm) across.
THE CENTER OF THE FLOWER. 

Start with the center of the crochet rose:
1. CH 3, join in a ring with a slip stch, CH 2
2. DC 12 in the ring
3. Slip stitch to joitn the row
THE FIRST LAYER OF THE FLOWER.
For each layer: first make the arcs supporting the petals (one arc for one petal) and then make petals in the arcs.
Acrs for the first layer:
1. CH 2
2. Slip stitch in the 2nd stitch.
3. Repeat 1-2around the row (6 times total) for 6 petals.
Petals First Layer:
Step 1: CH 3
Step 2: DC 3 in the first arc, CH 3
Step 3: Slip stitch in the same arc. First petal is ready!
Repeat Steps 1-3for the remaining 5 petals. The first layer is ready! :)

THE SECOND LAYER OF THE FLOWER.
Arcs for the second layer:
Attach the yarn of different color if you plan to make multi-colored crochet rose.
Step 1. CH 3
Step 2. Slip stitch in the back of the first layer between the petals of the first layer.


Repeat Steps 1-2 for 5 more arcs of the seond layer.
Petals for the second layer:
Petals for the second layer are similar to petals of the first layer, just a DC stitch more: [slip stitch in the beginning of the arc,CH 3, DC 4, CH 3, slip stitch at the end of the arc.]. Repeat [ ] for all 6 arcs.

THE THIRD, THE FOURTH (AND THE FIFTH) LAYER
OF THE BIG CROCHET ROSE:
All layers are done in the same way as the second layer, the difference is only in numbers of CH stitches for the arcs and in numners of DC stitches for the petals:
The third layer: Arcs: [CH 4, slip stitch] repeat [ ] 6 times . Petals: [slip stitch at the beginning of the arc, CH 3, DC 5 in the arc, CH 3, slip stitch at the end of the arc] repeat [ ] for 6 petals.
The fourth layer: Arcs: [CH 4, slip stitch] repeat [ ] 6 times. Petals: [slip stitch at the beginning of the arc, CH 3, DC 6 in the arc, CH 3, slip stitch at the end of the arc] repeat [ ] for 6 petals.
The fifth layer (if needed): Arcs: [CH 5, slip stitch] repeat [ ] 6 times. Petals: [slip stitch at the beginning of the arc, CH 3, DC 7 in the arc, CH 3, slip stitch at the end of the arc] repeat [ ] for 6 petals.
The third layer: Arcs: [CH 4, slip stitch] repeat [ ] 6 times .
